Hello Europe! This is the United Kingdom calling!
The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest was held in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. It was the third time that Stockholm had hosted the contest and the second time that it was held in the Globe Arena. The right to host the contest came when Måns Zelmerlöw brought home the trophy with his song, Heroes, from the event in 2015 in Vienna. Australia returned to Eurovision for a second year with Dami Im finishing second with her song, The Sound of Silence. Ukraine’s Jamala won the contest with her song, 1944, providing Ukraine with its second ever victory in Eurovision. Congratulations Jamala!!! The Eurovision Song Contest was shown live in both the USA and China, and over 204 million people watched the final. ESC is now officially a world-wide phenomenon!
Hello Europe! is designed with love by a merry band of like-minded UK Europhiles, who update and contribute regularly to the site. We are keen Eurovision fans who endeavour to go to the Eurovision Song Contest every year! The idea for creating this website originated on our most recent escapades in Stockholm.
Hello Europe! is where our love of Eurovision and travel collide. The website is dedicated to bringing you hints and tips for seeing ESC host cities in all their glory. Each European city is a unique melting pot of history, culture, and architecture with a distinctive atmosphere and an individual way of celebrating Eurovision.
We love to travel and can think of no greater excuse than to intrinsically link our love of Eurovision and travelling and visit the cities that are fortunate enough to host the Eurovision Song Contest each year. We want you to be able to share our adventures because…well…you might just learn something interesting and maybe even enjoy yourself in the process. But more than this, we want to be able to share our experiences of travelling so you can learn from our mistakes and take advantage of our lucky breaks and fabulous finds.
The website will contain articles about Eurovision and ESC artists, music reviews in our Écoutez l’ Eurovision section, Our Glimpse Guide will provide quick, easy to access travel tips and our travel vlogs and articles can be found on our ESC Hatch pages. There truly is something for everyone (That is, if by everyone, you mean people who love Eurovision, Europe and travelling!)
We want this to be a community project where people can contribute their ideas about what we cover. And if you think your work is good enough then we want to include your articles, videos and travel tips as well. You can keep abreast of everything we do by visiting the site regularly and subscribing to our social media channels (links at the top of the home page!).
The Eurovision Song Contest is about bringing a continent together. The competition allows Europe to simultaneously celebrate its differences whilst showcasing the individuality of each nation. With Eurovision, Europe is literally united in music. Likewise, Hello Europe! is an online forum for Eurovision enthusiasts and travelling fanatics to come together and share their collective knowledge.
We welcome you to our site and say ‘Hello Europe!’
